The Story

Last month, Assistant Editor Sarah and Digital Marketing Manager Lianne went on a roadtrip to Lincolnshire. To say the rest of the office were jealous is an understatement, as the pair spent a spectacularly sunny Monday morning in the company of none other than, World and European Champion, Olympic gold medallist and British team golden girl Ros Canter. You can find out what they chatted about in the June issue of Horse&Rider and catch some behind the scenes snippets on our socials (don’t worry, there’s some unmissable training content to come from next issue, too). But one of the standouts for the team? The quiet focus of Ros and her team (ably led by her mum and dad, at whose farm Ros is based).

There are so many factors that contribute to success, but attention to detail is definitely one of them. It’s something we explore further this issue with a fascinating new series from equine physio Harriett Wareham on marginal gains, and how you can apply them to your horsey life to make a tangible difference.

Sometimes, though, what you want from a visit to your horse is just some quiet time. The simple pleasures of owning a horse can be easy to overlook, but we shouldn’t, because without them, life would be significantly less fulfilling. We share ours, but would love to hear what yours are! Drop us an email or get in touch via our socials.

For the H&R team, a beautiful yard, talented trainer and rider, and awesome equine model is the perfect recipe for a photoshoot. Even better if it’s not raining! A day in the Essex countryside at the gorgeous Radley Green Equestrian with eventer Alicia Wilkinson and her fabulous horse, Rambo, was just want the doctor ordered, and we came away feeling really excited by Alicia’s simple, but super-effective exercises and tips. Whether or not competing is on your 2025 agenda, Alicia’s advice will help you get the most from your riding time.

These days, much publicity and discussion is given to considering what we eat to keep our own guts in good working order, as well as the link between food, the gut and overall body health and mental wellbeing. The fact is, it’s no different for horses. Nutritionist Lucy Baskeyfield shares the basic rules of feeding and tips to help keep your horse’s gut healthy.

From jumping advice and ways to refresh your hacking to confidence boosting tips and our guide to summer showing – this issue is jam-packed with plenty of inspiration and exercises for you to try. Plus, find out how to claim your free shampoo and sponge from Hy Equestrian!

All of this and so much more in the June issue of Horse&Rider – on sale now!
